Dangerous goods

Whilst checking the DG manual the other day, I came across the fact that garlic is a DG, and prohibited as both hold and cabin baggage!

Any ideas why, as no reason was stated?

In what format is garlic DG? That's a new one on me.

Could they mean as a concentrated form? Maybe a liquid or perhaps it a special reqest of Transilvanian airways?

Yes indeed!! IIRC (havent cast my eyes over the DG regs for many years...)
garlic extract came under UN 1169 and Un 1197 the "extracts aromatic, liquid" paragraphs in that publication. They had to be packed in sealed containers and in accordance with the rules and regs. Garlic can let off an awfully bad aroma, as I once found when entering an Egyptair A300 in EDDL many moons ago, the aircraft had just arrived ex HECA with 4000kg fresh garlic on board, the smell in the cabin was so overpowering, cleaners were employed to clean out the holds after offloading...made my eyes water...:{

I've just had anotherer look at the manuals, and it is listed in the ground handling manual as 'unaccepatable := cargo' in any form along with DG, hence my initial confusion).
