A 319 decellerated APP

Hi guys, I need some help from more experienced guys out there...
My company wants me to be fully conficured ,at Vapp ,with engine above idle and established by 1000ft.
No big deal you would say but for me recently it hasn't been that easy.
In the place where I operate it happens many time that during your app you will have some tailwind which makes it a bit harder if you use the normal references (config 1 at green dot, within 3 miles of FAF, and S speed by 2000ft TDZE with F2 extension by that height and then continous selection of gear and flaps.)
By reading OM and FCOM I realize that if decelaration toward S speed doesn't seem to be happening by 2000ft L/G should be selected!
Do you have any operating tips that I could use?
Any help will be apreciated..
Thanks in advance.

Thats just about it for the 319. If it isn't decellerating you have to use the landing gear earlier. Speedbrake is completely useless between 220 and 170kts when on the glide slope and flaps 1 to 3 provide minimal drag to slow you down. At our home base we a re regularly required to maintain 160kts to 4 miles yet still meet the same criteria as you at 1000ft. To achieve this we generally used selected speed of 160 kts, flap 3 and gear down, which keeps plenty of drag out so that as soon as you pass 4d you can select managed speed with enough time for the speed to reduce to Vapp and the engines to spool up.

Hi Speevy

I totally support CM's opinion.

It's not easy in a tailwind and the gear is the way to keep control of things.
As CM says - forget the speedbrakes!

Above opinions are correct. A319 has to much residual thrust at idle. If you are stuck with some tailwind, config early. This also applies to high density alt approaches. A approach at 5500ft field elevation (Johannesburg) is far more slippery than a coastal approach. I did a Go-Around in Windhoek, Namibia (about 4500ft at 28 degC) recently where full flap was taken at 1500ft AGL at Vapp +25 and at 1000ft AGL we were not stable. Tip for the day: Be at 2000ft AGL with Flap 2 and consider taking gear. DON'T FORGET TO MANAGE THE SPEED.
