Composites and Corrosion
 

I was wondering whether the types of composites used on the modern generation of Airbus aircraft involve any metals and whether corrosion is an issue at all for them?

Even the modern composite structures still use metallic fasteners, metallic bearings or metallic fittings, so there is the big problem of galvanic corrosion.
To prevent this, either appropriate metals are selected (as titanium or inconel) or a non conductive composite layer (normally glass) is added in the contact area. This is a lot of work for design and production.

Anyway, corrosion is less than a problem in composites compared with metallic alloys. You only have to take care with joints and fasteners, as Volume said, because of the carbon present on the most used composite (CFRP).
