kapton wiring - death by wire

I saw a very interesting programme last night called death by wire.

Unfortunately I only saw part of the prog, but the jist of it was that due to high current passing through this caused the wiring to burn and this led to fires.

Airbus still continues to use this wiring.

One of the main Air crash investigators who examined the Iranair crash which landed safely but the Capt. did not evacuate the a/c resulting in all pax dying. the invest. said that looking at new research he can conclusively say that kapton wiring was responsible for the fire as was on the Swiss air disaster.

The FAA failed to comment and so did Airbus. BA VS and other airlines simply said that that there a/c were safe but how can they be if they have this form of wiring.

could anyone shed some more light on what this wiring is and its problems. If there are problems why dont Boeing and airbus change but again it comes down to cost as this would be huge if one had to rewire all the a/c in the world.

Secondly and finally I sae an a/c maintenance guy checking wires for burns and all he was doing was randomly checking a bundle of up to hundred wires by simply running them through with his hands at random spots.

I know there are mile of wires in a/c but there must be a better way of doing so.

any comments would be appreciated.

That was a Saudia L-1011 and it still sits there about 500m south-west of the Northern Threshold of the old Riyadh Base main runway.
