turbojet
Is turbo jet/fan the same as turboprop?
|
Nope.
A turboprop is a jet engine that powers a propeller via a gearbox (and has minimal jet thrust)- for example the Pratt and Whitney PT6 as used on many lighter aircraft such as the Shorts 360. A turbofan is a jet engine that powers a fan and has some jet thrust as well- for example the RB211 on a 747. A turbojet is more of a pure jet engine, where all the thrust is jet thrust from the exhaust nozzle (for example the Olympus engine on Concorde). Very noisy! Is that enough explanation? |
Cheers
that's what I thought just got a bit confused! |
