Air Georgian fights pilot fatigue with fatigue science wearable technology
In response to increasing concerns regarding pilot fatigue regulations, Air Georgian has been working with Canadian company Fatigue Science to build a customized solution for pilot fatigue. For the past 12 months Air Georgian has been field-testing wearable technology from Fatigue Science with exceptional results, allowing pilots to develop an understanding of their true fatigue levels during both rest and work hours. Pending regulatory approval Air Georgian aims to utilise these fatigue recording, reporting, and management tools as an integral part of their operations.

I am sure there is some obscure regulation number that this can be approved for. With so many incidents being attributed to fatigue in flight crews, and pilots claiming fatigue as the reason for the incident....be careful what you ask for, as now there may be a way to track it.
FAA concludes SAFTE Fatigue Model is able to predict workplace fatigue risk in the field
It has been scientifically proven that workplace safety is compromised when people are fatigue impaired. This study validates the use of the SAFTE Fatigue Model in the aviation industry, as it relates to fatigue measurement and prediction, and its effect on human performance.

Fatigue science are imho the world leaders in this technology and utilises technology initially researched by the DoD. Not to sound like a sales pitch, but the data behind FAST was built upon data ranging from pretty extreme all the way to the routine.
The watch not only tracks activity, it tracks noise, temperature and frequency specific light levels. Particularly blue light.
If you think in terms of the context of the ryr crew sleeping on chairs, around other people, in a lot room, you get an idea of the sort of corporate behaviour that can be controlled .
Change is sometimes necessary for the better. Heard many crews say "it's not safe but it's legal". If you research fatigue science, they will show the actual fatigue Risk Vs what subpart Q is not adequately protecting against.

Anything like this is designed to squeeze more out of the existing legislation.
having worked for this bunch, and being threatened by the CP for trying to book off due to fatigue, and then falling asleep during PF duties, I can tell you this is about looking like they are doing something. It is also the reason I started recording all my phone calls

Pilots whine about fatigue, and how it has contributed to incidents...how long was it before a solution to measure fatigue was available and validated? Pilots keep blaming something, now there is a solution. What is the next focal point for incompetence?
On a side note, while there is the obfuscation of drug/alcohol levels, test every crew, and see how many flights need a crew replacement. Dont kill the messenger.

Under fire: IN COMMING!
Put a collar on Cpt B and teach him new tricks, EH!
You do not have any idea what You are talking about, do You
It is not possible to measure fatigue. Even the definition is disputed. That so called scientific research was not even close to such. Not even done on pilots!!
I , on the other hand have some 30 years of empirical" research" done over 20 000 hrs.
I have FOs falling asleep on me on a weekly bases. They live on the base and are on 5/.4 roster. 25 years old 2 years in the business, and they tell me horror stories about Cpt Sleepy and Cpt S. Norring. Students in the sim at night forgetting their middle name!!
The limit has been crossed long time ago by the CAAs and the MoneyMen.
I regularly flew 12 hrs shifts for 5 days in a row, two sectors. 40 000km + that is a full Global rotation, and a bit, in 5 days.
I commuted , it was legal, but exhausting.
Know Your OWN limit and stop well before, it is the law. And it is easy.
PS I did 5 on 13 off and 800+ hrs a year.
Now what is Your experience, Mr Underfire?
