Airbus Smoke/Fumes/Avionics Smoke QRH procedure

The last action of this QRH procedure states:

-IF AVIONICS SMOKE ECAM NOT TRIGGERED DO
NOT PERFORM THE GEN RESET.

Even if the avionics smoke warning had been triggerred why would you want to try a gen reset when you had placed the electrical sysytem in this configuration in the first place.

I assume you are talking about A320 series.

I think you may be looking at an out of date edition of the QRH. Revision 42 has removed the AC Bus shedding on pages 1.09 and 1.09A. On page 1.09 You are now invited to consider putting the aircraft directly into ELEC EMER CONFIG.

The reason for this is as follows:

Airbus has discovered that, if the batteries are being charged when you switch off the generators in your attempts to isolate a possible electrical smoke source, DC1 and DC2 may be lost permanently.

Page 1.09A no longer exists.

The last actions are now:

ELEC EMER CONFIG

APPLY ECAM PROCEDURE, BUT DO NOT RESET GEN, EVEN IF REQUESTED BY ECAM

and then:
  • JUST BEFORE L/G EXTENSION

GEN 2..........................ON
EMER ELEC GEN 1 LINE....ON

Greetings,
Why the French are the best lovers in the World?
Because the FCK everything they touch
Airbus docs is a good example

OEB's

KIJ,

I agree just look at the OEB's.

Why are relevants OEB's deleted as if they did not exist ?

The past OEB's and their history should be kept.

The modification to the QRH was for the reason that Wingswinger says, since the sequential electrical shedding for diagnosing/eliminating the source of the smoke had the potential to cause problems. However, this is not the reason for that line in the QRH, which tells you to disregard the instruction to reset the GENs if the ECAM smoke warning was not triggered.

Even if the avionics smoke warning had been triggerred why would you want to try a gen reset
The direction to disregard the GEN RESET warning is still present in the QRH, though, as WS quotes.

Let's consider that all our attempts at eliminating the suspected electrical smoke source have failed, and things are getting serious. We might decide to enter EMER ELEC config to shed all non-essential electrical loads.

If the ECAM AVIONICS SMOKE warning was triggered, the ECAM knows not to tell to reset the generators after entering EMER ELEC config. If you elect to enter EMER ELEC yourself, the ECAM doesn't know this and 'sees' the entry into EMER ELEC CONFIG as the problem, not the solution, so it will tell you to try a GEN RESET.

So you are right, you wouldn't want to reset the GENs if you deliberately entered EMER ELEC CONFIG. If the ECAM AVNCS SMOKE warning was triggered, the ECAM wouldn't mention anything about a gen reset.
