Cool what's the diff??

Hi fellows,. .. .What is the different between an axial and a centrifugal compressors? I have been reading up notes on them but couldn't quite get what was the author trying to explain. Can someone give me a simplified version or direct me to a website where I can find out more? Thx in advance... .. ."Shut your mouth. Simply: an axial flow compressor is a series of fan and stator blades "blowing the air into a small space" to compress the air. A centrifugal compressor is a "spinning plate", that takes the air in the centre and flings it out to the edge of the plate to compress it.

FD. .. .They say a picture is worth a thousand words.. .. .Axial flow compressors are what you see on modern jet aircraft.. .. .Centrifugal compressors are found in early generation jet engines, and in most turbo-prop or turboshaft engines.. .. .Are you really a dutchman? If by chance you live near Rotterdam go into the airport hotel. There is a early jet engine in the entrance hall (a gnome I think) that is sectioned. It has a centrifugal compressor IIRC.. .. .CPB
