Avaition Oddities

A few weeks ago my Nan booked her first flight to Spain to visit one of my aunts.

When asked by the Travel agent whether she wanted an aisle or window seat, she replied:

'Oh, I must have an aisle seat. I don't want a window seat in case the person next to me wants to open the window and has to lean over me.'

This had us all in stitches for ages, but fair play to the travel agent who (almost) managed to keep a straight face and explained to my Nan that the windows couldn't be opened on a modern jet.

In the end she had a wonderful first flight, and has already booked up to fly again.

This just had me laughing for days afterwards and I was wondering if anyone has experienced any other oddities...

Two old ladies on a flight back from Bologna asked the cabin crew if they could put something in the galley fridge. They wouldn't believe that there was no fridge on a 737. Still don't know what they did with 4 litres of best Italian icecream.

There was a nice story in Ernest Gann's 'Fate is the Hunter' about a DC-6 Captain with a raging hangover, who was making frequent trips out of the cockpit for paper cups of water. After about the third apperarance, an old lady pax asked him 'what he needed all the water for'. Something snapped and he replied: "Madam, I am attempting to extinguish a cockpit fire." Unfortunately, she wrote to the airline to commend his bravery. ;)

Heard a story once from a Virgin Hostie.

After repeatedly being stopped and asked for a glass of water whilst walking up and down the isle the stewardess poilitely pointed out tothe elderly passenger that if she required water in future she should press the crew call button.

A while later whilst the stewardess was walking up the isle she saw the old lady holding her glass up to the call button whilst pressing the button expecting water to come out.
