Captain's respect

Ok all you captains, FO, SO and the likes. I've heard time and time again how captains blow their own trumpet and should be more humble.

The FO's seem to consider the captain as an obstacle in their promotion (in some cases that's true).

Either way, the captain, in most cases seems to be caught between a 'rock and a hard place' (when it comes to CRM).

Do you deal with issues and run the risk of being branded and egotistical b*****d or do you do your job the way you feel comfortable with (and if it means applying pressure, so be it).

I personally feel that a Captain should endeavour to work together with his/her crew (and in particular it FO), however, what if you get an FO who has 'attitude'?

Someone, who really questions everything you say in a manner which is not like "...I'm wondering.." but more like "...I'm not convinced, spend more time on it or I'll be pissed off..."

How do you deal with such a situation (remember that you also need to lead by example....)?

The Captain signs for the aircraft and is resopnsible in the end. Some F/O's have lost sight of this fact and especially that the COMPANY and CAA holds the Captain responsible for crew actions. If the F/O disagrees then he/she can complain to the Fleet Manager.
