Aircraft Vids?

I was wondering if any one knows of any good sites where I could order some interesting 'in cockpit' videos?

I've got all the ITVV vids, but I was interested if there were any other ones of similar quality in the market?

Thanks

You will not find better than the ITVV videos, especially theit Platinum collection.

By comparison, the Justplanes videos are generally shot from the jumpseat with a hand held video cam and cr*p. I was given one of a Royal A310 flight to Stansted. Most of it is in the dark and absolutely useless.

Anybody got a site for me so I could order some of these ITVV videos?!

Hamrah 16th February 2001 18:52

Try www.itvv.co.uk

The outakes are NOT availabel to buy (thank goodness)

I agree -- the ITVV are the best available. . .very good quality. The old ones are just as good as the new "Platinum" ones, I reckon, but they're all excellent.

swashplate 19th February 2001 12:58

ITVV videos excellent.

However, I think the GO 737 video is better than the old ones - more cameras so more viewpoints!!

scarebus 20th February 2001 02:23

I agree that the ITVV vids are brill, all except one, the A-320 (Birm-Zakinthos) Alan Dix is great, but the video is let down by not having any ATC sound, proper start up sequences and poor editing.
Overall the video is still miles better than any other companies, I recently watched an ATR 72 Vid and boy was that boring (no commentary, no close ups, nothing! And then made a big mistake on buying 767 Frankfurt-Thailand (so bad its not even worth commenting on)
It just makes you realise how ITVV is miles ahead of any other video collection.
If any one knows of any other vid that comes remotely close to the ITVV collection let me know, I am not really happy about buying on-line when the quality is not really garanteed.
By the way does any one know what ITVV's next release will be?

swashplate 20th February 2001 17:32

Scarebus:

Agree about the A320 video for the most part, but I liked the explanation of weather radar overlay on the Nav Display - THUNDERHEADS!!!
Did you notice how the cameraman was relegated to the cabin for landing!!!!

Anyone seen the A330 vid? Any better???

One thing I would prefer is to see the pre-flight planning as well. Perhaps some bad-weather approaches?

PS What is Capt Alan Dix doing now? He seems like a good laugh!! Is he on PPRuNE?

Cheers Hamrah, videos have been ordered and looking forward to watching them.

Scarebus, I've got a home video of water bombers in action. It was taken some years ago when the QC government still operated PBYs. Some nice cockpit and water drop footage.
If you're interested in a copy, e-mail me your name and address. It'll cost you ten or fifteen bucks to have the tape copied, and for postage.
PS. The dialogue is in French only. Sorry.

scarebus 24th February 2001 20:58

Pigboat
I would love to have copy of the video, but how can it be any good if it is in French (just kidding). If you can assure me that its interesting then please e-mail me with your address so I can send you a cheque.
Thanks
scarebus

Scarebus, I've got the tape ready to go, and I tried to e-mail you for your mailing address, but my computer refuses your e-mail address. Zap me your mailing address and I'll get the tape in the mail first thing.
I'll be away for two weeks beginning Thursday, so if you can get back to me ASAP..

scarebus 28th February 2001 00:35

Thanks pigboat
Got your e-mail no problem
I've sent you an e-mail, hope your computer excepts my e-mail

Further to Capt Alan Dix.

I was reading the '10yrs since Air Europe collape' thread on Ruomors & News, and it gave this link:

http://webhome.idirect.com/~andrewsm/ae/aestaff.htm

Says he's left flying due to accident. Is this the same Capt Alan Dix as on the Inter European A320 video??

Can anyone enlighten me?

VFE 10th March 2001 00:13

I recently purchased the Virgin747-400, Heathrow to San Fransisco by ITVV. Absolutely fantastic video! From the Captains one-to-one briefing with the camera in the HQ (shocking colour wall paint!) to the landing. Cannot recommend it enough.

Every video I have from ITVV has been outstanding value for money.

Regards, VFE.

Have to agree that the ITVV vids are good. I've got the KLM Fokker 100 and Virgin 744 vids and they're both excellent. My only gripe is that the KLM Captain isn't miked up properly for take-off or landing and it's a bit of a strain to hear what's going on over the engine whine.

By comparison, the Justplanes vids look good on the website but in reality are laughably poor.

I got the Namibia 747SP vid, which is just some bloke sitting on the j/s, waving around a camcorder. There's no commentary, most of it is out of focus, you can't hear the crew exchanges, the night portions of the flight are just blurry instruments, and all you can hear is engine whine. Not a particularly captivating way to spend a couple of hours.

The other one I have is the Gabon Express vid, which is a little more interesting because they still use the Caravelle for pax use, which has a certain anorak fascination factor.

But again the dreadful technical quality and lack of narration makes me wonder
why I don't just release on vid my attempt to land in a 737 sim with one engine out, in a 35kt x-wind, and an incapacitated P1. That was more exciting....

Hi all

Only just read the thread!

Just want to say thanks for the nice comments.

The "secret" of the videos are the hard work that the FD crew do in presenting these programmes. It's not easy to do.

Alan Dix is a close family friend – he came up for my son’s christening – very sad that he is no longer flying. Bad horse riding accident.

Anyway, once again many thanks for your comments – much appreciated.

Regards
