Bfs L1011

Hi

I saw some pictures of a L1011-150 of Business Flight Salzburg on airliners. Do you know what kind of work are they doing with it?

Enjoy your landings :ok:

Don't know where it is now, but not operating for BFS.

A/C sat at SZG for sometime, doing nothing, then went elsewhere iirc.

Last report is that it is in storage in Dhahran. L-1011 s/n 193B-1221 is a -100 not a -150.

Its sad.
It have been nice to see that old lady back at business, flying around.

Take care :ok:

Don't dispair, Fly4Fun, there is a new operator under formation, and you might yet find an L1011 with regular scheduled passenger service into Europe.
Look for it in LIS.

AOC issued, now awaiting final funding.

411A:

Since you get in that area of the world more than I do now, do you have any insite on the Saudi fleet? I know they have been sold a couple of times, but they are still stored in Taif. Every ship had the rear spar mod completed and was given a fresh check prior to being put in storage, it's a shame that they just sit there and rot.

The problem, glhcarl, as I understand it is that the present owners have a totally unrealistic expectation as to the the monetary value of the airplanes.
They were originally offered at 'round about $4.17million apiece, but even then, five years ago, they were overpriced.
I understand the 'new' price is in the region of $2.2million, but even there, still overpriced.
We negotiated with one owner for a -250 elsewhere, but the asking price was just a tad too high...and they want us to pay for the needed C check.
Just ain't gonna happen.
These folks are getting quite anxious now, so we'll see.
Meanwhile we have managed to find another that is suitable, and is in check, with a spares package and ready to be put to work.
We will move forward with this shortly, I believe, unless something better comes along.
The TriStar today is still a good niche airplane, even with the higher fuel costs, so long as the utilisation is not excessively high, in selected markets, especially if belly cargo space is needed, which we do.
The 'ole Lockheed three-holer has proven to be quite reliable, provided it is operated and maintained by folks that give it proper care and attention.

Hi 411A,

Actually there are 2 operators in LIS with L1011-500. I used to fly to LIS and I saw them arriving or departing a few times.

By the way, this new L1011 operator is from where and what kind of operation, cargo, pax?

Enjoy your landings :ok:
