Which uniform?

Hello all

I just wondered if someone in the know can answer my question. Today i saw a couple of first officers on my positioning flight from lhr to man and the uniform they were wearing i have never seen before. They were wearing the typical pilot uniform however they had red stripes inbetween their bars on their shoulders. Does anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks

If it was purple between the stripes then this usually indicates Engineering. Flight engineers often have purple between the stripes as do ground engineers.

Red cloth between the stripes denotes a surgeon officer in the Royal Navy, also in the British Merchant Navy.

Virgin Atlantic, positioning to MAN for either Barbados, or Orlando service.
