OOPS!

Any one else seen the horrendous damage done to a Skyservices A320 at MAN yesterday ?, ive seen some damage done to aircraft over the years by service trucks etc but this was spectacular, theres a gash about three feet by two feet through the fusealage, i wouldnt like to picking the tab up for that repair!

I heard about it, but I haven't seen any pictures yet. Do you have any? The aircraft was due to be transfered over to G-reg today, as MyTravel will be using it this summer. That's going to put a dent in the schedule!

Out of interest, which supplier caused the damage?

GBALU53 5th May 2006 10:05

This one sounds a lot worse than the deicer rig incident at Southampton three or four months ago with a Dash Q400 of Flybe.

Funny thing, noticed this thread 'cos I've got a cat called smudge.
I remember an incident in the 70's at LGW when a catering truck drove into a Dan-Air 727 and removed the top engine completely. Those were the days when the airport staff 'greasy spoon' served alcohol to workers around the clock, I believe.

Nice pic Jethro.

Wonder if it was coincidence that Airfield Ops Safety Unit is also in the picture? :p

Hardly horrendous damage. Looks like skin panel change, maybe some localised frame repairs and SRM style stringer repairs/replacements to me. Depending on spares supply maybe a weeks work tops.
The Q400 had several broken frames, one of which was attached to the front spar of the fin.

Alas, the damage is quite significant (more than can be seen in the photo), and 2 to 4 weeks is a more realistic repair time.

Lets put it this way you can see into the cabin from the outside.
Not a pretty site,up close!

Great start to the summer season for MYT !

SM82 8th May 2006 19:45

totally beyond their control. The aircraft is on a check anyway so is no major problem for the time being.
