USAF (?) Globemaster at EGBB

Were my eyes deceiving me or did I see a USAF Globemaster parked on the cargo ramp at EGBB this morning?

Anyone got the story?

HEATHROW DIRECTOR 22nd November 2005 14:09

Surely someone can put us out of our misery?

Xeque 22nd November 2005 14:22

Probably got lost. :=

Wycombe 22nd November 2005 14:49

I'm not there, but more likely "one of ours" on Div. from a foggy EGVA perhaps?

HEATHROW DIRECTOR 22nd November 2005 15:26

Ohh noo.. So he meant a C-17, not a "real" one! My ancient brain immediately went for:
A "real" Globemaster

Apologies HD...

Just to be clear - I meant a Boeing c-17 (not routemaster)

Haa.. love it!!!

It was dropping off an aeromed patient.

Fried_Chicken 22nd November 2005 22:20

wasn't an USAF example, one of the RAF examples (ZZ173 was the serial on the flightplan)

RAF C17s are quite regular (usually during the hours of darkness) into Brum bring wounded soldiers back from Afghanistan or Iraq. I believe one of the Hospitals in Brum (Selly Oak?) deals with any MOD patients

I meant a Boeing c-17
Right.

For several years, AW&ST used to refer to a "McDonnell-Douglas DC-3". They finally recognized that McDonnell had nothing to do with the design or manufacture of the Gooney Bird.

Boeing bought the Douglas factory (and inherited Harry Stonecipher and the C-17), but it had (has) precious little to do with the bird.

and I was just about to post "where's FC when you need him?".....

most interesting. cheers guys. :ok:

<<McDonnell-Douglas DC-3>>

That's as sinful as naming a little elastic driven clockwork mouse a Dakota - I believe Piper have given that name to one of their Cherokee type machines!
