747 low in Daventry Sector

Just witnessed a 747 heading approx 090deg -100deg and at around 6000' overhead WPT OLNEY at around 14:20z

Wasn't brilliantly lit, but appeared to be blue and white and clearly on idle or very low power given the noise footprint. We often get heavies into CAM routeing via here - wondered if she was heading into Marshalls for a seeing-to! - Could possibly be into LUT but they tend to be a tad further west.

Either way looked oddly out of place slipping below the Heathrow Northerlies

Any ideas?

Probably a tall order - but given the hit rate of many you guys
possibly not!

Might it be the GSS 744 that's been training up at DSA earlier today and then flying back to STN? Landed back at STN at 1410.

It was, it went Stansted-Doncaster earlier. It just came back GSS141 and GSS142.

Would make sense - especially if she was routeing OLNEY- BKY-STN

did wonder if it was that a/c when I read another post on this forum !

I was on the GSS 747 that went to DSA today. I was training two new GSS pilots. Although we came past OLNEY on the way back to STN, we were not as low as 6000ft, so possibly not us.

It almost certainly was you - altitude notoriously tricky to gauge from the ground with large a/c.

Odd high altitude wispy clouds not helping today either.

I'll wave next time
