787 - is it really a Caravelle or maybe Comet ?

I could swear it was the pointy end of a Caravelle !!

Caravelle or Comet? Well they both did share the same nose section assemblies

I note that the 787 will not have an opening cockpit window. I had often wondered if Boeing regretted not incorporating an opening window in the 747 as cleaning the windscreen requires a cherry picker.

A cherrypicker is needed on a 747 for a heap of other things, so it's no big deal.
How do you think they fill the APU oil?

Someone noted the Caravelle nose section was copied from the Comet.

Similarly the VFW614 nose is strikingly similar to the Fokker 100. Anybody confirm this?

(actually - considering the vintage of the photos I was comparing - it was a F28, not F100)

I was wondering on a forum on Caravelle why they didn't make noses like that anymore. I had forgotten the Boeing Dreamliner.
Very elegant aircraft altogether.
I think it's Reginald Mitchell, the genius that designed the Spitfire --And the Mosquito-- who said once something like "an ugly plane will fly, but a beautiful plane will fly beautifully".
But no cockpit window opening????

I hate to be pedantic, but - I think you'll find it wasn't Mitchell who designed the mosquito, it was some other genius.

One should never believe whats friends say. I was told the original design was Mitchell's. It wasn't.
From a Mosquito site:
"The members of the Mosquito design team included the chief designer and team leader, R. E. Bishop, Richard M. Clarkson, assistant chief engineer and Mosquito aerodynamicist, C. T. Wilkins, assistant chief designer and the fuselage specialist, W. A. Tamblin, senior designer and the wing specialist, and Fred Plumb who managed constructing the prototype."
