G-byda

Is MyTravel DC10 still in use with MyTravel and used as back up or is she just sitting patiently waiting to die like the Monarch DC10 did a few years ago.
I hope G-BYDA does live on as its the only trijet civil plane in the country, or i hope Scandic take it on like they were originaly going to.

Fried_Chicken 15th January 2005 12:55

I understand that Air Scandic are to use leased Finnair planes for S05

Hi,

G-BYDA is now void of MyTravel titles and was initial a strictly LAST RESORT aircraft but I believe it will be finding a new life in Turkey now as it has been sold to MNG Cargo.

It would have been great though to see G-BYDA in the viewing park either whole or just the nose next to G-DMCA painted in full livery as the MON DC10 was.

GOLF-INDIA BRAVO 15th January 2005 13:59

Better a VC10 or a Viscount/comet or my best a Vanguard
By the way has anyone any further news on the Trident

G-BBAE

Do Falcon 900s not count as civil trijets then? Or the preserved Tridents?

G-BBAE 15th January 2005 14:16

No they dont as they are not in passenger use.
Im glad G-BYDA is still having its chance to fly, i wish they never scrapped half of the Monarch DC10 and kept it in full.
So has G-BYDA left for Turkey then? and arent the SCY300s with MNG airlines now in cargo use.

Oshkosh George 15th January 2005 14:19

Well, don't recall you mentioning passengers! All those execs will be glad to know they're flying in a FREIGHTER!!!!!!!!

Kestrel 15th January 2005 22:01

G-BYDA

"DA" is in the hangar with an aux tank fuel leak at the moment, latest runour is that it is going into the desert.

unless Thomas cook you have more accurate info.??

the fuel leak is fact though

Engineer 16th January 2005 08:31

Concur with Kestrel's comment.

Last month there were two interested parties But the aircraft was being prepared for shipment to the Desert

G-BBAE 19th January 2005 08:08

Does anyone know where the ex MYT DC10-10s are now?
Are they still sulking at Kemble?

Engineer 19th January 2005 08:31

G-BBAE

Check Here :ok:

G-BBAE 24th January 2005 13:50

As MYT have ridded of their DC10, are they still planning to axe their 757s and 767s.

GrahamK 25th January 2005 09:22

Considering they have just recently painted some of their 757s into the full livery, I would imagine they'll be staying for a wee while yet.
As for the 767s, I think one is going to Monarch. Dunno about the others

G-BBAE 25th January 2005 10:05

So what are Monarchs long term plans for the A300 if they are going to buy 767s, also Monarchs 757s are getting on a bit now arent they?

GrahamK 25th January 2005 10:28

I think it's just the one 767 for MON, flying out of GLA and LGW on long haul flights.
The A300s are used mainly on the high density European routes such as TFS, PMI, AGP etc

G-BBAE 25th January 2005 11:11

So at a guess MYTs other 767s will be heading to Excel Airways or First Choice.
On the topic of the DC10 again, what was it like to fly on, ive never been on a DC10 before, been on a tristar though, im just wondering if they are quite noisy and make a large humming sound when starting up.

GrahamK 25th January 2005 12:32

I've flown on a MyTravel DC-10-10 G-TDTW and also an Air Ops L1011.
The onboard service was better with MyTravel, but personally I prefereed the L1011 to fly on

G-BBAE 25th January 2005 17:13

Is G-BYDA still at Manchester, ive seen no pictures of it on !!!!!!!!!!!!!! recently.

5 MILES OUT 24R 25th January 2005 17:44

I believe it was towed into the MYT compound at MAN this morning.

chiglet 25th January 2005 20:25

Supposed to do a "test flight" this PM, but left work before is "happened"
watp,iktch

G-BBAE 26th January 2005 08:25

As a photo request could anyone get a snap of it at Manchester on the tarmac.

Harrier46 3rd February 2005 07:57

Heard it is going in the hangar for a D check today so looks like somebody is interested in buying it. Any ideas who?

Caslance 3rd February 2005 18:01

Got one, G-BBAE.

Why do you ask?

PapaRomeo 3rd February 2005 20:06

i've heard a fairly reliable rumour that its going to flyglobespan

Engineer 3rd February 2005 22:52

Not D check it should be a C2 check

Part of the MSG3 program the aircraft was maintained under.

G-BBAE 4th February 2005 09:02

Seems to be doing well for its age, long live G-BYDA, god knows why MYT wanted rid, it never once let them down.

PilotsPal 4th February 2005 09:29

I don't suppose it's any of my business but do you ever thank people who answer your endless questions G-BBAE? It only involves posting a couple of extra words.

The Greaser 4th February 2005 09:45

No, its already been established that he doesn't thank people. He got a good bollocking for it once, and still hasn't learnt his lesson.

Regards

G-BBAE 4th February 2005 09:47

I do thank people, but you obviously havent seen the threads where i have. If you havent got anything possitive to say dont reply to me.
Im sorry for not saying thank you, and im sorry for my stupid questions, i know i am in the wrong but if you do have a problem please PM me, dont leave it on here trying to embaress me.

Caslance 4th February 2005 12:40

Seems to be doing well for its age
It's been sitting around at Manchester doing nothing for quite some time now.

Maybe this is "doing well", but I for one can't see how.

AVIACO 4th February 2005 13:35

Why would globespan take a DC-10? Seems bizarre. This is not a good type for a LCC, especially an aged machine that will be totally unreliable technically and will not manage short turnarounds.

Audreyslackey 4th February 2005 13:40

Also heard it's going to Globespan. Also heard it used to be pretty reliable a few years back, or am I incorrect?

Harrier46 4th February 2005 13:43

Apart from their European routes don't Globespan still have Canadian flights using Air Transat? Used them three years ago to Vancouver. Maybe they want to use their own a/c for longhaul now?

G-BBAE 6th February 2005 11:27

Why do they seem to convert all DC10s and MD11s to cargo planes at the moment, i mean some MD11s are only 10 years old.

Engineer 8th February 2005 08:42

Can one assume that the recruitment of DC10 personnel by Direct Personnel International and Wynnwith for a one year contract starting 1st April based at Glasgow is an indication that Globespan has decided to use it own dedicated aircraft instead of Transat.

Or maybe an early April fool's day windup:D

G-BBAE 17th February 2005 08:29

I think it could be heading to South Africa like its cousins, G-TOES etc

webby1919 7th March 2005 13:20

I know that Globespan are planning to go long-haul by the end of this year, but its a bit short notice to start longhauls just now isn't it?

Does anyone konw where it is going?
