Myt Dc-10

Just wondering if anyone knows when the DC-10 that MyTravel are still using is getting retired. Also, i know that one of them has been sold to Oriental, but whats happening with the others?

Rumour is that the DC10-30 (G-BYDA) will finish service with MYT at the end of October. Understand Air Scandic may be interested in taking it on.

my snowboarding trip

in that case what is gonna take me and bring me home from my snowboarding trip in banff MAN-YYC (calgary)

the last two years it has been the DC10 one way - complete with refreshing fuel stop in goose bay, and the DC10-30 on the way back - direct.

are we gonna have the swish A330 or a rusty old 767 with a seat pitch of 18"

its soooo comfy on an 8 hour flight !!!

thanks my travel for putting comfort before profit.

The YYC flights don't appear in our flying program this winter so I don't know who will be operating them. You never know you could end up in luxurious Air Canada B767! ;)

Excel airways are operating the MAN-YYC flights this winter using a 763

There are three sitting at Kemble, the Oriental scheme on one was only for a movie/TV programme.

Believe they are all for the slicer, once useful parts removed.

I presume the fourth will join them.

codpiece face 16th September 2004 21:57

I stand corrected, i was told it was a 763.

Big Tudor 17th September 2004 13:59

Would these be the ex Britannia 767-200's by any chance?

Tommyinyork 19th September 2004 09:58

So whats happening with the MYT DC10, is she going to the graveyard or is she getting one last lease of life with Air Scandic.

DELTABOY 19th September 2004 11:12

Yes, all of the B-767-200ER of excelairways were originally with Brits, although G-SATR , ex TF-ATR, was also ex Air Europa of Spain. Well maintained machines I thought when I was at excel, though we were all pretty shocked at the ex Brits seating config which excel insisted on keeping, 290Y, 2-4-2......dreadful!
Hope they ease it a bit for any long haul ops unless ofcourse the passengers are expert in advanced yoga techniques!!;)

The DC-10-30 is going to scandic at end of oct info came from a MYT engineer,Think its time the old girl was put on display in the viewing park at MAN would make a great display, she was kept by MYT as a standby aircraft but seems to be used a hell of a lot, goes TD often also since she been around since 1978 think its time for a nice new A330 :p

Scandic also getting another DC-10 from Finnair to replace the A300 with that fantastic paint job:p

Tommyinyork 22nd September 2004 08:33

So where the A300s going, i heard rumours that they are going to be converted into Cargo planes.
Please dont send them to scrap though.

Finnair haven't got any Dc10's, only MD11's

So where the A300s going, i heard rumours that they are going to be converted into Cargo planes.
Both of these aircarft are quite old (B4 series aircraft), probably worth more component wise than complete aircraft wise. Then again, there are several Turkish Freight operators popped up recently that have taken on fairly old A300 aircraft.

When were Scandics A300s built, were they built in 1984?
Also why dont Scandic add some MD11s?

we_never_change 23rd September 2004 19:46

Also why dont Scandic add some MD11s?
Despite American AL, JAL, Swissair & a few other airlines retiring the type recently, most of these (& a few sat in the Desert) are earmarked for conversion to freighter so the sourcing of frames may be difficult.

Why was the MD11 so unsuccesful compared to her older sister the DC10.
I mean the MD11 is a great aircraft, i dont understand why so few airlines operate it.
When was the last MD11 built anyway.

Harrier46 24th September 2004 08:53

Too expensive to operate / purchase when compared to the twin jet 767, A330 and larger 777. And smaller than the four engined 747 which has a larger passenger capacity. Basically it has been squeezed out by these types and as values have dropped it now becomes an economic proposition to convert to cargo config. Lease rates for passenger aircraft however still higher than the DC-10 so Scandic unlikely to go for them. Plus difficulty getting them onto UK Register (if required).

Tommyinyork 24th September 2004 10:11

What about the A340 i mean that has 4 engines compared to the MD11 which only has 3 engines.

Why would Scandic aquire A340's?

DC-10 / Air Scandic

Seems Air Scandic have had a change of plan, apparently they are no longer interested in the DC10, which means it could be confined to the scrap heap im afraid.
