'Noisy' aircraft
I've had reports from our local 'Your Chobham Neighbours' forum of a noisy aircraft yesterday about 1.30 or 2 pm, first over Bracknell then over Lightwater (M3 J3)
Any ideas? |
The A400M Grizzly is quite noisy. Maybe one of those?
|
Both complainants referred to 'low flying jets'
.I'm assuming it was maybe a flypast by the USAF at Brookwood Miltary Cemetery which sometimes happens; I shall be bloody annoyed if I missed an F35 cos it sounded quite close to me in Chobham. |
Herc on its way to Wembley perhaps?
|
Bit early for Wembley I suspect, as flypast was at 17:00, didnt hear anything here in Farnborough
|
I'm always amazed at people who want to enquire what aircraft it was they saw or heard (whether to complain, or just out of curiosity), but who don't think to look at their watches to note when they saw/heard it.
|
It was a jet at about 2pm not a Herc at 5pm.

I have started recognising the sound of a Lockheed Hercules at 20,000 ft 10+ miles from me :8. We get Spits from Biggin Hill flying a mile or so from us at 1,800 ft so anything loud gets my attention in the hope that it might be going over the top of us. We have had a variety of Herc's nearby in recent weeks including a civvy one.
During the pandemic, a Grizzly was doing circuits at Gatwick and we could hear that loud and clear  |
When did the A400M become a "Grizzly"?
|
"Airbus's test crews nicknamed the A400M (Atlas C.1 A400M) 'Grizzly' during the pre-delivery trials phase". Extract from RAF website.
|
Airbus reportedly tried hard to get the RAF to adopt the name formally, including peppering the tarmac at the 2010 Farnborough show with fake bear footprints.
Happily, somebody at the MoD must have seen sense. |
