Prolonging an OEI flight when landing performance (stopping distance and g/a gradient with margins beyond minimal) is satisfied, just to comply with the max LW limit is not the safest course of action. There is no requirement to observe MLW under such scenario.

Plenty of nice reading here on the forums,
last IIRC was a QR return about 2 years ago.

Choosing significantly shorter LDA against a longer one (by what, 800 meters at least?) is not the most conservative decision either.

A knowledgeable training and standards department, which so far we understand RYR have, might face a need for an advisory notice to crews after such event. To ascertain the line personnel can still see the forest over the trees.

--- the above is a general comment ---

To the OP question: 30 mins for a birdstrike is par for the course. Especially if the engine does not fail straight away and pilots proceed carefully. Avoiding hasty moves which could simplify but worsen the situation.

The choice of a shorter LDA, quite certainly for operational reasons, suggests the time was not critical.

In such circumstance we just take the time we need. Not more than necessary but all of it, yes.

My understanding is, that following the incident, MAN closed the runway for inspection. Hence the diversion to LPL.
