FR9045 diverted
Yesterday FR9045 from BCN to STN was diverted to LTN. Anybody know why?
Fairly interesting route when they returned to STN - straight over the centre of Cambridge at 6000 feet - I'm guessing they decided to give the passengers a bit of sight-seeing to make up for the diversion? |
Does anyone really give a stuff?

Likely due to thunderstorm activity affecting the area as a number of inbounds were holding and departures stopped for a while.

Apologies!
Yes, should have gone in to Spectators in the first place.
Thanks Musket90 for a possible reason. I looked at STN arrivals and didn't see a break. Still curious about the route - definitely not the shortest and wondered about the additional fuel burn from a notoriously tight airline to take the aircraft directly over Cambridge at fairly low altitude. |

Well since you bothered to ask the question, the answer is yes. |
Maybe the route was to avoid bad weather between STN & LTN.

When going from one airport to another nearby you can't just go where you please, ATC will have an input.
Positioned empty aircraft LUT to LHR a couple of times, one flight was about 9 mins the other was over 20 mins including once round the hold. |
