Boeing B.727-100 VIP ?

Learned contributors,
I think I recall one of the last series 100 Boeing 727s built was a VIP version which had more powerful (series 200 ?) engines in number 1 and number 3 positions. Can anyone identify this aircraft and its fate, please ?
Thanks in anticipation for your time and trouble.
David

Last I can see is c/n 20533 built in 1971 as N320HG for ITT, later N228G with W R Grace and Co.

Edit, yep last 100 with JT8D-9As. Now C5-GOG with Gambian Government and "stored"...

There does seem to be at least one 727-100 at Banjul Airport...

Are there any B727 freighters still flying around at the moment or are they just in the VIP roles?

There are the two 727-2S2F Oil Spill Response aircraft on the UK register. G-OSRA & G-OSRB. Ex FEDEX.

Kalitta Charters still fly B727-200 freighters in the US.

Thanks dixi188 & L1649

Good to see some are still flying, used to supply B727 spares around Europe!

M-STAR 727-200 is a 727 VIP and still fly's occasionally. We had it and the two oil spill aircraft training at Teesside last year.

Did we ever get to the bottom of the OP's query?

AFAIK, no 727-100s were built with anything other than -9/-15/-17 engines, though a number (around 10?) were subsequently converted by Valsan/Rohr to "Super 27" configuration with the -217/-219 in No 1 and 3 positions, of which a handful are still flying.

I believe there may also still be some of the Dee Howard conversions 727-100 (3 x Tay) still flying.

treadigraph 11th Feb 2021 10:38

N800AK is still active it seems, the other conversions were done for UPS and are parked, says Wikipedia. Must admit, the Tay conversion had passed me by...

DaveReidUK 11th Feb 2021 12:31

This would suggest that it's engineless and in the process of being parted out, with the Tay 651-54 about to have its TC withdrawn.

I stand to be corrected, but I thought the UPS Tay conversions were 727-200?

I was working on an aircraft at Boeing Field one evening many years ago when one of the Tay converted 727s took off. Very distinctive sound - nothing like the JT8D powered 727s.

No, the Dee Howard STC (SA8472SW) only covered the following: 727-22C, -25C, -27C, -30C, -31C, -51C, -62C, -108C, -173C, -180C and -185C.

Having said that, one of the conversions was N916UP (19808), a former Airlift/Braniff -172C, so go figure.

AFAIK, the Tay would have been too small for the 727-200.

There was a 727-100 with new engines and winglets forsale in the SFO bay area. It is/was owned by the getty family for over 20 years and prior to that Revlon. Beautuful airplane inside and out. N311AG There is another one forsale listed in the Controller that appears to be equally as nice.

That's one of the Valsan/Rohr "Super 27" conversion, as per my previous post.
