Is that a Herald behind the Braniff's tail?

SWBKCB 22nd Feb 2021 21:02

I think that's Korean Air on the extreme right. Definetely Pelican to the left of the tail. Was it not BMA that has the Air Algerie lease?

Yes, but I'm not sure of the colour scheme.
Maybe BAF.

Just remembered the pair of F-35s I saw low-level over Somerset last Thursday. Aiui only RAF jets are in the UK at the moment. Nice to see them out in the wild for the first time.

Looked like they were nearer 500' than 250', crossing in front of me a few hundred metres away. But what really struck me, having seen them display at Farnborough where they were plenty loud, was how quiet they were doing "real" flying (even as they rolled and pulled into a 90deg turn it away from me). Far quieter than fast jets at that height and distance usually are. Really are low-observable.

I know BAF seemed to have as many colour schemes as aircraft, but the greenish titles aft of the flight deck windows don't seem to have been any of them.

Can I offer Channel Express.

treadigraph 23rd Feb 2021 05:22

Definitely Korean 707 and the Herald must be Channel Express - I hadn't realised they were going as far back as 1980. After BA and Loganair, as Jet2, they must be Britain's 3rd oldest operator now... ? Suppose Britannia are sort of still going as TUI... Bristows...

Herald doesn't look like Channel Express, dark blue belly?.

SpringHeeledJack 23rd Feb 2021 08:51

The far-right 707 is Korean Airlines. As to the Herald, no idea, but if memory serves, Heralds and Comets and Brittanias always seemed to be parked on remote stands 'way back yonder' in those days and the passengers bussed out to/from them. Strangely the weekly invasions of IL-18's of Tarom and Balkan Bulgarian all seemed to come up towards the terminal and park on the main concourse airbridge (much to the delight of the spotting terrace) ;-)

You're right, think it must be BAF, possibly G-BEYD which was in a similar scheme in '82.

Have they fitted silencers to the Fatlass fleet? ZM410 climbing right overhead at barely 30000' just now and could only just hear her...

WB627 23rd Feb 2021 13:46

Dutch C130 passed about 4 miles south of me at 25,000 about 15 minutes ago, heard it indoors with the windows closed, didn't see it, even standing outdoors :(

treadigraph 23rd Feb 2021 13:59

I saw him on ADSB, had a peer out of the window thinking a small dot might be visible from 30 miles NW - assume he may have been above the cloud - looks like he's going into Guernsey.

treadigraph 23rd Feb 2021 15:04

He just flew home straight over the top - not visible, there is some very indistinct milky-cloudiness which I suspect is medium level - can see the waxing moon through it, no bother!

To early for Channex. Braniff went bust about 1982.
Channex did have lots of colour schemes as they aquired or leased aircraft. I painted out the titles on the South East Air aircraft (G-ATIG) when it was taken back off lease so it could fly a mail flight that evening.

Weird loud buzzing noise made me look up while fixing my gutter .... Piaggio P180 heading west over Didcot.

SpringHeeledJack 23rd Feb 2021 16:06

I just watched a British Airways A380 go quietly past into LHR just now. Haven't seen one of those in a few months it seems. Came from Madrid, where I assume it was in storage/mx.

DaveReidUK 23rd Feb 2021 19:02

Maintenance visit.

TheFrenchConnection 23rd Feb 2021 21:27

10:05PM (A400) Airbus A400M ZM403 Approx 16,000 feet SE>NW south Bracknell , into Brize from the Med , gggreat sound as always

goldox 24th Feb 2021 07:04

SAAB 340A of RAF AVIA LATVIA just passing overhead Didcot heading south. Above clouds but droning along.
P180 passed opposite way to yesterday (heading East) and much much quieter. Due to height? Yesterday it made an awful loud buzzing noise, me and the wife thought it was an express on GWR mainline!
