Spitfire and a Hurricane believed to have flown down Crowborough high street this morning. I heard them but didn't see them, nothing on ADS B or Flight Radar. It was one of my sons that observed them , hence the "Spitfire and a Hurricane believed"
Anyone know for certain what they were? |
Got a time?

Just before I posted about 12.25

G-BMSB appears to have possibly been down that way around the right time, perhaps the BHHH two-seater Hurricane was in formation with her.

About 25 minutes ago silver P51 arrived o/head Bicester , couple of circuits then headed East with big wing waggles, thank you was much appreciated.

G-BIXL/Miss Helen, headed to Duxford.
Big grumbly drone at 00:mygoditsearly hours this morning (about 3am I think), bleary eyed fumble with phone revealed AN-12 UR-CAG (sez memory) heading SSW from somewhere ENE. The nostalgias bit is recalling 4 x R2800s occasionally around that time of the morning, probably less than 20 years ago, DC-6 taking newspapers or something into Europe. Lovely sound it was... |
I heard it as well (as did most of London I'd imagine!), coming from Southern Norway to Madrid (Torrejon). After a break of many months there does seem to be a bit of UK trade using the Antonovs, which is nice to hear ;-)

Canadian P-3 tooling around off Whitby at the moment, noticed it and also a French Atantique in the Prestwick area earlier today.

I haven't exactly seen an interesting aircraft but I think I've heard an interesting aircraft. Each morning at about 05:00hrs something drones over Akro Towers but I've never actually put eyes on it. How can I do a FR24/ADSB exchange/Freedar search without any aircraft type or flight number details? If any of you can help me out I'll post details of whatever it is that's causing the disturbance. Provided it's interesting that is.
Thanks in advance Akro |
For FR24, the playback option is the clock on the RH side of the screen.
Alternatively, if you're prepared to disclose your approximate location, I'm happy to do a search. Does it happen every day? Is it 05:00 local time or UTC? (bear in mind that FR24 uses UTC). |
The power of Pprune! Thanks for that Dave, I've found the culprit abeam Akro Towers at approx. 04:10 UTC. (You'll be able to get a rough fix on the Akro stately pile now). As for the aircraft, it was a, ahem, a err, not really that interesting, FedEx ATR72 en-route CDG-NCL:O. In my defence I would like to point out that since the demise of FlyBe there has been substantially less prop drone overhead with just the odd J41 in evidence. But that's more of a buzz than a drone.
Thanks again Dave:ok: Akro |

Good to see those two aircraft still in front-line service 60-odd years after they first flew.

Good to be able to hear Tynes occasionally as well, though I believe the Gernan fleet will be fully withdrawn next year. Any French or Turkish examples still flying?

The French Atlantiques are the Mark 2 version which 1st flew in the early 80s.
But both it and the ATL2 are still variants of a type that has a 60-odd year history, which was my point. |

Yes, I'm well aware of that, thanks. Come to that, the Aurora first flew in 1979.

The RAF's RC135W Rivet Joint aircraft are already over 55 years old and the prototype (Boeing 367-80) flew in 1954.
