Canberras over Oxford
Good evening,
Earlier today I spotted what looked like two Canberras in formation flying due south away from Oxford. One seemed to have a bright red tail. This was about 3.45pm today (Monday). Does anyone have any details on these please? Thank you all. |
Martin Baker's Meteors may have been out and about today I believe.
Edit: the black one WA638, now G-JMWA, certainly passed over Oxford around the right time. The other, WL419 now G-JSMA does have a dayglo fin! |
Based at nearby Chalgrove in case the OP is not aware!

I think I'm right in saying that there are no currently airworthy Canberras anywhere in the world, though I think NASA still fly a couple of WB-57s.

Of course, it was the Martin Baker Meteors! I only glimpsed them from behind for a very few seconds and for some reason I thought MB only had one Meteor, hence I went astray with my ID of them.
Checked the website, nice pictures of the two of them - one black, one red trim. Beautiful machines still going strong! Thank you all for prompt info and best wishes to you all. Goldox |
Unusual to have them both airborne at the same time; I thought they only had one pilot who was current!
|
Most definitely two together, one black and one with a red tail, in close formation.
Unless of course I am seeing double (but different colour schemes??) Is there a tracker app that could confirm? |
|
Beautiful! Thanx DaveReid.

I was at Chalgrove aerodrome yesterday 13th August as part of a visit and both Martin-Baker's Meteors were flying. They gave a polished exhibition of graceful formation flying - a wonderful sight (and sound)!
I think that there are about 3 pilots in current practice on the aircraft. |
