Blackhawks and ospreys

Just had 2 Blackhawks And 2 Ospreys over Wandsworth heading towards Windsor looks like practice run for Mr Trump also police ec135 flying with them

pax britanica 9th Jul 2018 13:29

They are practising approaches into Sandhurst right now making an immense amount of noise. Not seen an Osprey before they are big and indescribably noisy (shades of Fairey rotatedynes at LHR when i was ten. Also a Brit Army Lynx and A white topped Marine One Sikorski .. So it looks like at least some of DTs vist will be hosted there
i
Alosng with practicing for farnborough next week we are in for a busy few days in Camberley.
And while I am here any idea why on each of the past three evenings various light singles flying southwards drifting circles stating over Camberley and moving a little south on each orbit. One caravan, red and white, a blue and white smaller Cessna and what looked like a Piper Cub . Not normal light aircraft behaviour over here

I'm in Southgate (North London) and about 1 hour ago we had 3 Ospreys, then 2 more about 10 minutes later, though of course it could have been 2 of the first 3 coming past again. As you say, very noisy.

SpringHeeledJack 9th Jul 2018 13:38

I saw 3 V-22's, 2 Blackhawks, 2 Police escort EC135's. The 3 V-22's were bringing up the rear at a good pace when I saw them. I only bothered to look outside when the radio station I was listening to mentioned people in Tufnell Park rushing outside to see 'Black aircraft buzzing their homes' and panicking......

I felt sorry for the police ec135 trying to catch up with them.I wonder if the Ospreys have come off the carrier which is going to be anchored of the Solent but saying that it was a great sight to see them .

It was my understanding the AAC have 'retired' all their Lynxs'; the new 'Wildcat' is a similar shape however.

Just seen on YouTube good video yesterday of Ospreys arriving a Northolt with a herc and globemaster .The globemaster had the Blackhawks on board

treadigraph 9th Jul 2018 17:01

Think there were at least three C-17s in at Northolt over the weekend.

You are no doubt right about the Brit element as I am not up to date much on helos . Looked like a Lynx but had a sort of small ball turret type affair on the nose.

Sandhurst to Windsor is but a couple of minutes by air and much much more secure so a meeting there before or after a visit to Liz would work well or its convenient place to park stuff while the Pres is at Windsor Castle . Is the Osprey the worlds most unstealthy flying machine
.

Osprey helicopters fly over Regent's Park in London ahead of Trump three-day visit | Daily Mail Online

war zone sound track in Camberley today- more Marine and brit Army Helis -no Ospreys though, along with fast jets practicing at Farnborough down the road and the regualr sound of small arms fire from the RMA , Anyone stepping of a train would wonder what they were getting into.

The Apaches are unbelievably noisy and can be heard coming miles away -I wonder if this does sometimes limit their usefulness as they are about as stealthy as a VC10 but they are mean looking birds thats for sure-i certainly wouldnt want to be on the ground with a pair of them looking for you -very deadly

chevvron 11th Jul 2018 00:44

I saw 2 Apaches eastbound on H3 about 8pm (obviously going to London for 'balloon hunting') and there were the usual Chinooks backwards and forwards between 11pm and 12.30am

KelvinD 11th Jul 2018 07:51

Some of those Chinooks were flying directly above my house at around midnight. They can rattle windows and doors!

treadigraph 12th Jul 2018 10:52

Pair of Apaches just flew NE over Purley at a few hundred feet... lower than the civvy helicopter traffic which is usually around 900'.

Watching ADSB instead of decorating, quite a lot of IAT traffic in transit - Austrian AF C-130K crossing the Channel, didn't know they had them, does the K suffix make it an ex RAF aircraft?

I heard that 10 RAF short fuselage models were sold off as surplus (now that they have Atlas) so it may be one of those; another is being sold to the US Navy for the Blue Angels support aircraft.

kenparry 12th Jul 2018 15:59

Yes, the Austrians bought some ex-RAF C-130K many years ago. They were refurbished by Marshalls at Cambridge before delivery. According to Wikipedia, 3 bought, 2 remain in service.

Wycombe 12th Jul 2018 16:25

The one going to The Blue Angels is a J of course.

treadigraph 12th Jul 2018 17:38

Thanks Ken! While I was out walking this afternoon I could see another one in the Norfolk area on ADSB!

gunning 13th Jul 2018 08:27

V-22, EC-135 probably, & 2 Blackhawks just seen flying over Shepperton (near Heathrow and Windsor) so probably heading for Sandhurst now
