Farnborough International 2018 - Ticket Prices
Brochure for Farnborough International 2018 fell out of my favourite aviation magazine. If visiting be prepared to dig deep for tickets - £50 if bought on the day!

This comes up every two years, £50 sounds a lot, but for your £50 you get a whole days entertainment, where as a premiership match (Chelsea for example) at £105 you only get 90 mins !

Our son got us freebies once but never had any via work. Tnx for the tip.

As local residents we used to get free tickets, not anymore. This was a thank you from the organisers for the disruption to normal life for a week or so. I'm not complaining, the show brings much needed income to the area, but the free tickets were a welcome gesture. Once you have paid your entry fee, the price of food and drinks is eye watering. Lots of people watch from the corner by Barons BMW, or the Swan does a package where you can watch from their deck. I think the ticket includes food. Good views from MOD ground at west end of runway, but be prepared for a long hike or mountain bike to get there as all local car parks and many access areas are cut off for the duration of the show. Excellent views from top of Caesars Camp if the military do not cut it off. I have also viewed from beside the tower on Tweseldown, but I suspect the new owners may put a stop to this. I will probably be able to see enough from my back garden! |
I find that there is very little of interest/variety in the last decade or so at Farnborough, and would not pay the entry fee.
My last visit was 4 or 6 years ago and I parked up my motorbike at the western end (can't now as said above) and watched from the extended centreline up the small hill for about 45 minutes and saw all I wanted to. Bit of a borefest imho. |
I once got in free by turning up earlier than the ticket-seller at the gate was ready.
My wife once got in free by saying - correctly - that one of the display pilots was her cousin. |
If you are a member there is the Costco car park , if anyone asks your wife is inside doing the shopping . Also the roundabout on the main road just northwest of there is always good spot but pretty busy.
Not sure what there is to see these days as new civil types now in service and can be seen daily at LHR , no one is going to be that bothered about looking at the latest 737 iteration or an A321 with new engines so anyone know what might be worth the effort? |
Historic Farnborough public-day prices per the good old Flight archives:
1950 3s weekend ( no public on Friday ) 1960 £1 Friday, 5s weekend 1970 20s Friday, 10s weekend 1980 £5 Friday, £4 weekend 1990 £11 2000 £15 in advance or £20 at the gate. Additional per-vehicle parking charges applied although in those days I reckon most people arrived by other means. It would be interesting to align those with contemporaneous average daily pay. Nowadays a single-day ticket for RIAT is £55, so Farnborough sadly seems to be in line with the cost of 'large UK airshow' these days. |
Frankly as the displayline restrictions are likely to be the same as for 2016, so it's highly probable that nothing will be worth watching anyway.

I've never paid for Farnborough tickets before (In the past dim dark days my company gave me freebies) and £50 isn't going to make me want to pay for this years show.
So, for that reason I'm oot! |
DC-6 and Harrier would be tempting but £50 is a lot of cash in real terms.

As said above, due to this and that, it's not the airshow it once was and it could easily run to £100 per person if you include food and drink and what have you. For that money, as a pure airshow, there are alternatives with more bang for your buck, so to say. I've been many times over the years, not fully appreciating just how full and varied the programme was back in the day. I got a freebie exhibitor ticket in 2012, but even with the advantages that afforded me, I was lift disappointed. A few times I've been to The Swan and enjoyed the end of the runway and the refreshments (extra). An abiding memory there was the aluminium overcast of the A380 as it came in to land and the noise and draught of the Spanish Navy Sea Harrier as it crabbed along slowly towards the runway during it's display.

I was 'forced' to go every airshow from 1974 to 2008; I 'designed' the flying display programme from 1976 to 2004.

You are, of course, correct sir! However, I'm now unsure if what i saw was a Harrier, or an AV-8B ?

As always you see much more o'nt telly at Farnborough .... However still go to live sport, better than the TV
