What's happening at Manchester... (SVA123)

Any idea what's going on? Some weird looking holding patterns taking place by SVA123!

Saudia flight with "technical issue" burning off fuel before returning apparently Live: Manchester breaking news - Saudia flight circling Manchester Airport due to technical glitch - Manchester Evening News

OwnNav 20th Jul 2017 09:41

No 7700 squawk though

Cirrussy 20th Jul 2017 10:03

Well, it is a 787 after all! Thanks... Be interested to know what the problem is if anybody finds out!

NorthernChappie 20th Jul 2017 10:07

Is that a lot of fuel burning at the end of a flight? I can understand a departure and return requirement for it.

OwnNav 20th Jul 2017 10:07

Flap probs apparently

OwnNav 20th Jul 2017 10:17

Just been offered VOR DME to 23L as reported surface dry, going to give it a go.

probarbly a max weight departure from Saudi where the fuel is cheap meaning minimum fuel uplift at Manchester. fine if you flaps work on landing.

Southside Hangers 20th Jul 2017 10:52

Seems the flaps are stuck in the mid range

WindSheer 20th Jul 2017 10:53

Thats quite a hold. 14 laps round the track at the moment.
Just as well stay up there and get the landing weight as low as practical.

Eutychus 20th Jul 2017 11:32

Seems to be safely on the ground now, per FlightRadar.

Volume 20th Jul 2017 11:36

Taxiing back to the terminal, so obviously not even overheated brakes.
Just a normal day at the office...
Except that it has not been 9 to 5, but almost 10 hours. They must have really filled it up down in saudi arabia...

Cirrussy 20th Jul 2017 11:47

Yes... There is rarely a good reason for taking plog fuel!

DP. 20th Jul 2017 11:50

Currently holding, fire trucks in tow, on the taxiway between 23L and 23R.

Sporty looking landing, and he was (obviously) heavy on the brakes, but a good job all round.

Top gun pilot 797 20th Jul 2017 11:55

Holding for how long? Fuel jettison not working...???!!
Knowing Saudia maintenance department, that too must have been MEL'd !

Isn't there a restriction on fuel dumping in the 787 at flaps 20 or greater?

scifi 20th Jul 2017 12:39

Anyone know if there is some sort of interlock between the left and right Flaps, to ensure they both travel the same amount?
.

Volume 20th Jul 2017 13:07

The rules require that, so it should be there.

25.701 Flap and Slat Interconnection
...the motion of flaps or slats on opposite sides of the plane of symmetry must be synchronised by a mechanical interconnection or approved equivalent means.

atakacs 20th Jul 2017 13:17

Not fuel jettison capacity on the 787 ?

Volume 20th Jul 2017 15:35

Maybe they did not want to dump ?

The airline said there was an issue with the trailing edge flaps and it was waiting for a dry runway.
