Thomson 787, early morning positioning
Geeky FlightRadar24 guy here! Purely of of interest, who flies the positioning flights between UK airports after an early morning long haul arrival?
So for example a long haul flight lands at Stansted at about 6am and then departs at around 7am for East Midlands to prepare for a mid morning long haul departure. Who crews that hop flight? Is it the incoming crew to Stansted, the outbound crew for East Midlands, or a separate crew altogether? |
Can't speak for TOM, but my previous experience of working for FCA tells me it is a separate ferry crew.

Between long haul arrivals and departures it's nearly always a separate ferry crew, although on the shorter inbound sectors (say, an SFB to MAN) it's possible for the inbound crew to do a short ferry flight after the long haul sector. You wouldn't put a ferry sector before a long haul as you'd be gambling with FTL.

Going back a few years to when BA had the daily 767 service to JFK from Manchester I believe the outbound crew positioned from LHR by flying the morning 757 shuttle up to Manchester and the inbound crew from JFK flew it back. Hope I am not making that up but it was what I was told by a member of BA crew.

Ferry crew, then back to base by taxi

Its a different crew that does the ferry sector.

Thanks for the replies.
