Flat Earth Theory

Like many of you I am an Airline Pilot and having flown up at 43,000 feet a number of times I have never seen the earth's curvature.
I recently came across a series of videos about the fkat earth theory and find them quite compelling.

What do you think?

I think you are having a laugh or a troll, or both.

Answer one question. Where are the edges?

Cows getting bigger 23rd Mar 2017 13:37

I think you should lay off the juice a bit.

gearlever 23rd Mar 2017 13:48

Sure it's flat. Otherwise all vehicles would move downwards following the earth curvature without any driving forces.:ok:

And biz BTW, if you need a new gig:

Which leads to a far more interesting question that nobody yet knows the answer to - How does gravity work?!

DaveReidUK 23rd Mar 2017 13:52

The mods must be in a good mood today ...

aterpster 23rd Mar 2017 13:58

The Flat Plate Effect is more interesting. It is aviation-specific.

grizzled 23rd Mar 2017 13:59

Mods? MODS??... Come quick! There's another one loose in R&N. Please escort him to JB

When an 'airline pilot' (sic) makes such claims...
Captain H.M. "Howling Mad" Murdock, is that you?

Porschephile 23rd Mar 2017 14:24

If it was flat, you'd be able to see the whole damn thing from FL430!

Obvious troll is obvious.

donotdespisethesnake 23rd Mar 2017 14:29

Even the Greeks realised the Earth is round. 3000 years of civilisation and now people believe the Earth might be flat? :ugh:

To really see the curvature you need to be above 50,000 ft at least.

bizjetway 23rd Mar 2017 14:30

No Claims

I have made NO CLAIMS as to whether the earth is flat or not. I am curious to see what other pilots think. When I first heard about it I thought it was a load of rubbish...I then watched a few videos and that has made me think...question...
Michael Tellinger made a lot of sense on his but there are also a load of videos about flat earth that make no sense, problem is there are a fe that do make sense.

Let's be constructive and see what we can come up with here.

If the earth was flat, B52s would never get airborne!

Bravo Alpha One 23rd Mar 2017 14:35

hi troll,
Er, you claim to be an "Airline Pilot" [whatever that is] but you seem unfamiliar with the concept of the Great Circle??

Michael Tellinger is a lunatic, if you find yourself thinking he has some sensible ideas I recommended you voluntarily rescind your license, just cite medical grounds, to save further embarrassment.

Surely, this is a troll.

PPRuNe Towers 23rd Mar 2017 14:46

But he's right and you just aren't able to cast the scales from your eyes.

Great Circles are just fake news. We'll look at it again next year when you've had more experience of alternate facts. Copernicus got posthumous praise but Kepler will ultimately win.
