Brussels Airport to build 2 spotters areas

Since there are currently no regulated locations for spotters in the municipalities around the airport, Brussels Airport has, in consultation with spotters and neighbouring municipalities, looked for nearby places that meet both the wishes of the spotters and the provisions for security and safety. Brussels Airport has identified two places where a spotter area can and will be built. Brussels Airport Company will shortly submit a permit application and, if the application is successful, the construction of the spotter places can begin this year.

Not just reggie spotters but even more specifically for those who enjoy taking aircraft photographs. Consequently, these "spotter" locations will be in prime locations for good photos with the Sun behind for most of the day. Frankfurt did the same some years ago. What a pity airports such as Gatwick and Heathrow can't be arsed to do something similar!

Congratulations Brussels Airport and the neighbouring municipalities.

It seems a good idea at first, but what's the flip-side? 'Spotters' not using the approved locations will no doubt be harrassed as security risks. Not everyone wants to take another boring side-on taxying shot...

Agree with you El Bunto.....

Don't worry guys, if you want to take your "artistic" shots there will still be plenty of legal public areas for you to do just that.

Hopefully the new BRU 'spotter parks' will offer good views of the next airside bullion raids.

No, too far away. I suggest you go to the top of Parking 1 for that. :E

Some people seem to be missing the point. Here you have a busy international airport actually consulting with and spending money on areas for people to actually watch and take photos of the aircraft using it.

Just have a think about it in our post-9/11, security-conscious, everyone's-a-potential-terrorist world.

Many of the more intelligent airport authorities are realising that the best defence against terrorism is having plenty of spectators around, with notices of who to call if they see anything suspicious. However, they should ensure that said spots are not accessible between dusk and dawn, when they will be deserted.
