Just saw this today. Looks like an impressive low speed stop! (Video)

We departed a while later, they left serious wheel marks, first almost off the runway to the right, then almost off on the left. Runway lights were inside the tyre marks on both sides!:eek:

Thanks Tankengine. I was wondering if the mains had touched the grass as it was a pretty substantial swing. Must have been an eye opener for the poor crew!

They were given an Immediate take off clearance as there was a dash on short final. Will be interesting to see whether this was really due to a technical nose wheel steering issue or from perhaps a miss set thrust setting from a rolling start from the holding point

Other media reports suggesting a problem with the nose gear, though it's not clear whether that was a cause or a consequence.

I was on a flight due to land which was made to hold for 15 mins - stated reason was that a flight had hit a runway light which needed to be repaired. When I exited aircraft (one of last) flight crew were saying was the SQ plane which had done the damage. Is this what caused the landing gear issue?

The Dash crew must have had a ringside seat:eek:

I wonder if it was a repeat of what happened in the first 30 seconds here -

Not really relevant as it was to do with autoland rollout localiser deviation on an unprotected Cat 1 ILS.

I'll bet it was exactly the same issue as the aircraft in the video. Asymmetric power increase, caused by not waiting for the engines to stabilise at 25% or so, before pushing the levers to FLEX.

Nose gear has no hope of countering the swing.

The QF A380 took off after that? I guess it was not as bad as it looked!!

A Low Speed abort is more of a handful to control than one above, say, 80kts, when the rudder is effective.
