C54 Skymasters at North Weald
Was at North Weald yesterday and noticed only one of the two long time resident C54s visible.
Does anyone know if the other has been scrapped or moved out of sight? I think the one I saw had red prop spinners. Incidentally, we parked up alongside a MIG-15 that was being worked on. Amazing to see one of these in the UK. Hopefully it will fly again soon. |
It was scrapped I'm afraid. :(

The nose of the DC4 has gone to Burtonwood (Lancs) for a museum and other parts have been reported seen at White Waltham.

Could any body give us a bit of history about how they got there
|
A real shame! They were brought over for a film that never happened and then were left to rot on the airfield, another aviation crime.

Thanks for the information, gents.
I believe the aircraft were purchased for a film to be made based on the Berlin Airlift, a subject I have long been interested in and consider to be one of the finest of aviation's achievements. I suspect the second C54 will now suffer the same fate as her sister. |
