Difficult to summon enthusiasm about what's basically a re-engining project. I mean it used to be common, the DC-8 and 707 went through five different generations ( straight-jet JT3, straight-jet JT4, leaky-bypass Conway, bigger-bypass JT3D, bypass CFM56 ) and it was accepted as normal progress.
When MDC did an MD-80neo with V2500s the market yawned. Nowadays Airbus or Boeing hang a new engine on their decades-old airframes and the aviation press goes crazy... |
