GPS speed monitoring

Not sure if this legal but with my phone in flight mode, location devices remain on and it will constantly keep track of my position and speed whilst on airliner.

Legal, wise or otherwise how accurate will the speed readout be?

Can you get a GPS signal inside the cabin ?

Oh well , I suppose it saves banging on the Cockpit door shouting " are we there yet ? "

Usually it is much easier to get a GPS signal inside the cabin than in the flightdeck. I do fly quite a lot in the back and usually have no problems getting a fix with my ipad, but i can't without a gps mouse in the flightdeck.

Given that, I see no reason why the position and speed readouts shouldn't be reasonably accurate.

Speed will of course be groundspeed rather than TAS.

In the USA, each airline is the final authority for allowing the use of any specific devices. There are several airlines that specifically prohibit use of GPS units in flight, and the FA's announcements reflect that prohibition. On those airlines, you are legally obligated to turn off the phone if you know the GPS does not turn off in Airplane Mode.
