Noise when taxying

Hi all...on most flights, whilst taxying, i notice a sound like a winding sort of sound...like a car wheelnut is being turned by an airgun....intermittent sound, lasts about 10 seconds or so....was wondering what it could be? Happened last on BA A319
cheers

Power Transfer Unit - PTU. Old fave on this forum, if you do a search it'll turn up a better explanation :)

Only happens on Airbus aircraft AFAIK, or at least most commonly heard on the 319.

You hear it more on taxiing now because of the single-engine taxi procedures commonly in force with a lot of narrowbody operators (BA included). Before you'd hear the bark during pushback when both engines were started.

Doesn't sound at all like a winding noise or an air wrench tuning a lug nut.

Narrow-body Boeing airliners produce an occasional winding noise heard in the cabin while parked.

Electrically powered hydraulic pump operating to open cargo doors I guess.

Opening cargo doors whilst taxiing?

No. Dan was referring to the comment in the previous post:

Very worried by odd nioises when taxing out for my first solo in a chipmunk. Rear coickpit harness not fastended tightly, rattling aboiut.

It also is obvious on the Bae146 type aircraft.

It certainly is on the basic 146, I don't know about the Bae RJ family as l didn't have that pleasure.

during taxi, more likely the flaps being deployed.
