AN225 at SSA

For those interested the above is now on the ground at DSA. I'm not privy to the actual info but others are saying it is due out at 14.00

SSA or DSA?? Sorry, I don't know these abbreviations.

DaveReidUK 16th Nov 2014 11:29

DSA = IATA airport code for Doncaster/Sheffield/Robin Hood (the former Finningley)

Teevee 16th Nov 2014 11:55

Should be DSA

Sorry! Was in a rush and mistyped! all that heads up for nothing!!!

It departed DSA at 21.15 last night en route to Toronto.

Thankyou :ok: Any idea as to what could be so huge that it needed transporting by plane from the UK ? Turbines ? Trains ?

Whilst it's entirely possible that an AN-225 could operate into SSA (which is Salvador in Brazil and has a 10,000ft runway at sea level). It would help if people read what they have written before they post it. I did wonder why such a visit would provoke so much interest

I'd guess it rests solely on the fact that it's a one of a kind and the largest flying machine in the world.

Used to be a coalmine near to Finningley (Rossington Colliery).
Not only have I been down there (1964), but I've also been on the flight deck of the 225 (Farnborough); vertical ladders involved in both places!
