Edinburgh Airport Virgin Emergency Landing

On the Edinburgh Evening News about a Virgin Little Red flight. En route to LHR taken off, just returned back to airport after suffering a cabin depressurisation.

I was supposed to be on the return flight back up to Edi. We all ended up being booked onto 9.50pm BA flight (not sure who that looks worse for as there was a fair few of us that trailed over from T1 to T5). Home two hours later than expected so not too bad.

Looks like the "offender" is back in the air this morning.

I suspect the word "emergency" was the work of an over-enthusiastic reporter. "Technical diversion" is probably closer to the truth...

I saw this one yesterday.
It seems it took off, squawked 7700 and turned back in very short order.
It departed at 17:30 and was on its way back by 17:38, turning back at a point roughly mid-way between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

AFAIK there's no formal definition anywhere of "emergency landing", but landing while squawking 7700 would appear to fit most criteria.

Whether or not declaring an emergency is justified by a simple failure to pressurise (if that's what happened) is a moot point, but it's hard to fault the captain for wanting to get back on the ground without undue delay.
