DC9 at STN

Any idea who the DC9 belonged to today, looked like an ex USAF aircraft by the colour scheme. FR24 had no record of it

It probably was US military. I've seen one or two C-9's landing at STN. You occasionally see the USN version in Naples too.

Time of day might help to narrow it down, together with what it was doing when you saw it: arriving, departing or parked?

YR-OTN MD82 operated the Moldovan flight 9U833 yesterday lunchtime. This has been used regularly over the last few weeks.

Thanks guys. Is it ex USAF then ?
No, spent its first 20 years with PSA and then USAir, and has been all round the houses since then.

Looks very much like it.
Hmmm.

Thanks dave

So they painted it upside down :-D my mistake

munster 18th Aug 2014 23:22

It's operated by Ten Airlines from Romania. I've been jump seating to/from Chisianau for the last few weeks with them. Good crews and Olympic level drinkers in the hotel!

glendalegoon 18th Aug 2014 23:50

recently a USAF dc9 equivilent was auctioned off as a former air force one (clinton flew on it once)> nice shape.

if it is former USAIR/PSA, anyone know the registration number? perhaps ending in US or AU

treadigraph 19th Aug 2014 07:08

Glendalegoon, 'twas N944PS/N820US.

SpringHeeledJack 30th Aug 2014 19:03

I saw this old bird in the last days at STN and as others have said it was a dead ringer for a C-9 or VC-9 (if such existed). Photographic evidence showed this to be incorrect and it's heritage was confirmed, BUT it's because it has the partial colour scheme that mimics the VC-25's of the US President and this is what has caused it to be suspected of being ex-USAF.

maybe it wasn't at USAIR

all the real dc9's had N numbers with 9 as the first number: eg: 913VJ

at least after the merger with PSA

it wasn't an MD80 was it?????

SpringHeeledJack 30th Aug 2014 19:45

It appears to be an MD-82/DC-9-82 and was at USAir back in the 80's according to a cursory look on the inter web.

Identified as such in post #4.

all the real dc9's
With the exception of the MD-88, all the other MD-80 variants are certificated as DC-9s.

glendalegoon 30th Aug 2014 23:01

ok, so its an md82 and then the N number makes sense

nice paint job
