Airport Apron Lights

I saw this photo of a lovely old DC10 Photos: McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30 Aircraft Pictures | Airliners.net and before I read where it was, I had recognised it as Paris Orly, due to the heavily upholstered lighting rigs atop the gantries around the apron. It then occurred to me that, in general, at airports these days and perhaps years such a need for brightly lit aprons is missing. I realise that bulb technology has greatly improved, making lighting rigs smaller, but somehow it seems to have escaped my attention.

http://www.bloomberg.com/image/iDEaRwH57H9c.jpgI think placement and quality has gotten much better, for safety and security they have done well. This airport looks like a sports arena with those large light clusters. Cargo ramps are lit up very well, they are busier with all that ground equip. Found this on google.http://www.bloomberg.com/photo/fedex...aRwH57H9c.html
