I thought they dumped fuel over the ocean as a rule?

I thought they dumped fuel over the ocean as a rule?
It's not dumping fuel.

Still circling. By my reckoning she's on her 7th orbit. Evidently Delta have said she will be diverting to AMS. No reason given yet.

Dave Gittins 7th Aug 2013 12:55

Some mention here of diverted to AMS.

FL260 down to 180 just over an hour in and then back up to 250 30 mins later.

DL99 orbiting over Norwich

As an Ipswich fan I'd say that was a perfect location :-)

Dave Gittins 7th Aug 2013 13:13

Looks to have bben on a perfectly normal track from Paris to Detroit until mid Kent then decided a diversion after fuel dump or burn off was in order.

From where he is circling out of the way, Amsterdam is one of his nearest ... presumably where they have a base and Eng support.

heading for EHAM ??

radar0976 7th Aug 2013 13:25

A flap problem evidently. Still due to land in AMS in the next half an hour.

radar0976 7th Aug 2013 13:42

Passing out over the channel now en route to AMS. Descending through FL180.

Delta crew earning their money today.

Hope all goes smoothly.

kuningan 7th Aug 2013 14:29

Landed in AMS. 4 hours to get from CDG to AMS.....

1stspotter 7th Aug 2013 14:36

Aircraft landed safely at Amsterdam airport after having circled above Norwich for many hours to burn fuel. The former Northwest A330 is not able to dump fuel. Technical issue with flaps, hydrolics related.

BARKINGMAD 7th Aug 2013 14:57

WHO CAN WE ANNOY TODAY?

Luckily it was not an Asian-based carrier burning hydrocarbons over the pristine skies of California, having departed Mexico or Cuba, otherwise the eco lobby would be howling for their exclusion from USA skies?

I always thought UK carriers dumped/burned off in the channel as it was upwind of you know where.................................??!!

Another exciting day in aviation :hmm:

I suspect someone at the BBC is either reading PPRuNe for anything exciting or watching FR24...

Fuel dumping at 25,000 will not reach ground

If the article statement that the fuel was dumped while at 25,000 is correct, then it will be vaporized well before it ever gets anywhere near the ground.

NG_Kaptain 7th Aug 2013 16:03

The former Northwest A330 is not able to dump fuel.
I presume this aircraft does not have fuel dumping capabilities as do the 330's operated by the carrier I fly for.

sb_sfo 7th Aug 2013 16:04

none

"using up" in this instance means burning, not dumping...
