Much better than some of the rubbish posted on here. That's what the boys & girls at the pointy end are paid for. Good job all around. No doubt Torque Tonight would prefer not to have his landings filmed, but if it is done outside the airport boundary, it's perfectly legal.

Decision making at its best....nice one guys!! :ok:

Very witty HT. I am impressed by your debating skills:ok:

Was he charged for one landing fee or two?

DaveReidUK 29th May 2013 09:52

What airport was this? Anyone?
Birmingham, UK.

Not quite sure why he went around - bit of a float but touchdown was still well within the TDZ. Can anyone shed any light? Especially about when the decision to go around is taken if a long float occurs. I always thought it was once the aircraft was past all the markings and still in the air?

Oh for God's sake PLEASE don't start that nonsense. It's a pretty good video of a go around being excecuted. Let's not start analysing their reasons. The PF elected to GA for a good reason, whatever it was.

I'm going to end up taking sides with Torque Tonight at this rate :} ;)

I watched that happen from the pier and I thought those boys at the front did an excellent job in very demanding conditions. The flight was GIB-BHX.

A huge thank you to the 777 pilot who sent me a long PM regarding this landing and what was going on in the last 20 seconds before the go-around.

My original question was seeking to find out why the go-around occurred and what the decision processes would have been and certainly not to criticise - it is nice the there are some folk on this forum who can provide a response to the same without feeling the need to retort in a purile and unconstructive way.

DtA, I apologise to you. I'm afraid that the constant posting by armchair analysts of post-occurences/incidents/accidents in these forums influenced my interpretation of your post. :O

Hotel Tango - apology accepted, no offence taken. :p I was only interested because there is a video on You Tube of a 757 which was involved in an identical-looking landing on the same runway, except he landed beyond the TDZ and didn't go around. I wondered what the difference in decision making was down to, what is in SOPs, how much is down to personal descretion, how the pilots interact if the FO is flying etc etc. I am not in the business of commenting on whether or not the correct decision was taken or not in either case.

Edit: here is that 757 video:
