A video I took back in April. Maybe I ought to rephrase the description when it talks about 'constantly turning due to the runway being congested', someone in another forum suggested holding pattern.

Nice one plane addict. The filming was perfect, right down to the part where you chose to ignore the crew when they told you to turn off all electrical items for landing, you've as good as named and shamed the crew too, well done, you should be proud 😡

can someone please explain why its necessary to switch of electrical items during takeoff and landings? ive heard it said many a time that they can effect the aircraft systems etc,but why then is it ok to use them during the rest of the flight?

This has been debated ad nauseum here on PPRuNe and elsewhere. Try a forum search, or Google.

In the meantime, think about it - if, heaven forbid, your PDA is going to interfere with on-board navigation systems, would you rather it happened at 500' on the ILS, or at FL100 ?

Is the whining you mention in your description not the flaps extending?

With regards to the electronics turned on the program mythbusters looked into this using a single engined cockpit mounted on the back of a truck and a mobile phone, the signal did cause interference with avionics but then when tried on a modern jet it didn't, obviously this was only tested on the ground and not during flight.

There are plenty of videos from within the cockpit with multi cameras that must have had the airlines permission to be on so if it's safe up front why wouldn't it be less safe in the back (just saying).

Planeaddict, keep it at youtube. Posting that kind of stuff frankly doesn't impress anyone here at PPRuNe and, as you've seen, you'll be flamed. The only exception would be if it were followed by an overun and prang in which case all the PPRuNe armchair crash investigators would conveniently ignore the fact you kept filming during the landing and be pouring over your footage to establish their expert version of events. :hmm:

Oh and PH take off and landing are rather critical stages perhaps thats why extra precautions are in place .....unless of course in your infinite spotter wisdom you know different?

Now we all know you hate spotters walter, indeed you have now added "numpties" to your vocabulary so well done tiger, however what's driving this hatred? I am rather curious, did your mum (if you know her I mean) perhaps run off with a chap with a notepad and an anorak. We should be told!!!

The guy uploads and later finds out through another forum that the constant turning is because he was in a hold. Fair enough, no harm done. Most of you have assumed that he is trying to get the pilot in trouble for something - wrong.

You had a go at him for doing what everyone else does (including me at a young age) of filming take-off or landing. I wonder if those of you who had a go at him about this ever break the speed limit on a public road? Exactly..

Unless hes operating something capable of generating a humungous electromagnetic pulse, I don't think the plane is going to crash.

my god man for someone with such a hatred of all things spotterish you dont half spend a lot of your time on this forum,sad sad little man....

anyway, i can understand why phones and laptops, should be switched off but why camcorders? they dont send or receive signals. and for all the hundreds/thousands of video's filmed each year very little seems to be mentioned of incidents where flights have been affected.

Tad different don't you think, driving a car fast is not quite the same as risking the lives of 300+ people. The rules must be there for a reason, they are not all there to be broken. !!!

OK, two things.

Firstly to those who constantly question the requirement to briefly desist from using electronic toys when in flight, the only reason you need is 'because the crew told you so'. You are legally required to obey the lawful orders of the crew. There are plenty of very valid reasons why you are told not to use certain toys at certain times and while you may think you know better, you don't. This has been covered ad nauseam so do a search.

Secondly, I know this is the spotters forum but for the love of God, can people please desist from posting videos of utterly un-noteworthy flights, landings and takeoffs. Also reporting every completely mundane and routine maintenance action or diversion as if it's a terrible emergency. If something is unusual, interesting or special, by all means, but the internet is going to fill up very quickly if every non-event gets its own thread and youtube video.
