neroliie's random question thread

Hello All,

I have these on a regular basis, so I thought I'd just make a thread to put them all in, lest I litter the place. Begging your patience, &c. &c.

In the Questions board I saw this thread. Ahem. :O What is a CP?

I'm confused on the difference between ailerons, flaps, and spoilers (incidentally, despise me on my Oxford comma and I'll shoot you down with my disdain </grammar-nerd>). Is it that flaps extend in and out, whilst ailerons and spoilers go up and down?

(Put another way, flaps don't flap and those which aren't flaps do flap?)

And why do flaps and ailerons sit where they do? Why do you have so many flaps and then an aileron and then repeat the pattern (or not?)?

I genuinely can't tell if you're being serious or not :)

Just read this...

No, I'm being serious. I know very little about aviation, and while I'm busy reading books and stuff, every now and then I can't see the wood for the trees anymore and then just need to put my questions down somewhere.

(The comment about flaps not flapping was my albeit paltry attempt at wit)

You might get more replies if you appeared less of a comedian and more interested in actually learning something.

Best option would be to use Google as 99.999% of questions can be answered there.
