Spotting Sites Around Manchester Airport, UK

Hi All,

I have been to the Runway Viewing Park, which I find excellent and the pub near the beginning of the runway. But I was chatting to a photographer yesterday who mentioned a location which sounded to be opposite the official viewing park. He said once you've tried that, you'll never go back to the other places...

I can't work out where he means. I travel to MAN on the train, so could either take a push-bike with me, or preferably get a taxi to the 'other' location, but I wouldn't know where to ask the driver to go.

Does anybody on here know of the location the photographer eluded to? And if so, could you explain to me what I might say to a taxi driver to get me there from the Airport's railway station.

Thanks very much! :ok:

@mosstravel. if you arrive by train at heald green turn left out of the station, left at the lights and carry stright on through the next lights past airport parking place(sorry i forget the name)and take a right down moss lane carry on past the S bend and then past 1st crash gate where the road bends to the left.about 200yrds on the right is a footpath with excellant views.or carry on down the road till you reach a left hand bend,on your right will be a gate(bridle path) follow this till you reach a crash gate at the end of rwy2. the path then carrys on along side the rwy untill you reach "the mound" aka taliban hill.best view imo.its a few miles from the train so worth taking your bike.
good luck.

Bear in mind you'll need two runway ops for F, G & H to be any good.

If you drive there, don't park on the grass verge. I got a parking ticket last time :-( It is a great place and if you get dual runway ops, head back out to the main road, cross the roundabout and up the steps. Carry on past the fire station and you can head all the way down the side of 23L at a higher elevation. One of the best sites at MAN.

Does anybody know whether it's possible to get from the Viewing Park over to the other side of the airfield (to the 23 Left threshold for example) on foot, and how long this takes ?

Cheers.

About 45 minutes to an hour's walk. Left towards Wilmslow, under both tunnels, then take the footpath going left to Styal just before The Holiday Inn. When the path forks, Take the left option and climb up the sloping path. - Just follow your ears!
