does rolling a 707 damage the wing
 

the 707 prototype was famously rolled but there was a rumour that if an ordinary 707 was rolled, the wing would be damaged, perhaps failing on that or a later flight

Nonsense - assuming that the pilot knows the correct entry speeds and stick forces - in other words, knows exactly how to do it.

No problem provided you do a barrel roll and maintain 1g throughout. See Bob Hoover on Youtube doing a roll while pouring tea.

BUT, not for ordinary airline pilots. Tex Johnson did it, and told never to do it again!!

Airliners rated to 2.5g - no problem
 

The FARs require that airplane structure be designed for a 2.5g maneuver (flaps up) with a safety factor of 1.5. A well executed barrel roll will involve normal load factor above 1, but well below the limit load of 2.5g. While Bob Hoover's video demonstrates that normal load factor is positive and lateral acceleration is near zero throughout a barrel roll he does not claim and physics does not support a barrel roll being done while maintaining 1g throughout.
