Bachelor in Aviation vs other degrees?
 

I will be finishing high school soon, I live in Australia, and I was just wondering what you guys thought about UNSW's bachelor in aviation?

I thought it would be a good way to get my career going and getting the licenses as early as possible, however I've been told that these degrees are no value to airlines (it's only a three year degree) and that I should chose a different one.

I was thinking about things like optometry and dentistry, but would a degree in that field be beneficial in making my resume attractive to airlines and carriers?

What about aviation related degrees such as aeronautical engineering?

I've also got to consider that if I don't do the aviation degree, my training and licensing will be delayed and perhaps done a few years after the 4 or 5 year degree.

Excuse me for my ignorance, but I'm a confused, confused noobie who just wants to fly and has no idea what of what I should be doing :bored:

Degrees in aviation are essentially only good for aviation. If you lose your aviation job, you have nothing to fall back on...

Get a REAL degree from a REAL university. If you want to fly, do that alongside the real studies. Then, when you can't find a job as a pilot, you'll have a degree that will help find another job.

But you can't seem to get sensible funding for the flight training unless you do a degree, in which case you have access to HECS-FEE for the large bills.

Or is there another option for accessing HECS-FEE ?
