Strong Scottish Winds

The Met Office have issued a RED Warning for gusting winds in Scotland's central belt up to 90mph today.

Im curious to know what impact this will have on aviation, what is the max wind speed for wind directly down a runway heading against crosswind gusts.......

Safe flying today boys and girls, sounds like it might be a rough day if your flying in Scotland.

Our SOP's say a max of 55 knots, crosswind limit is 30knots.

We landed in gusting 50 knots in Scotland earlier this year (right down the runway) and it was a handful to taxi in those winds.

35 knots crosswind for our machine and 60 knots for taxying. Its getting pretty wild here now. Was flying this morning.....now glad to be on days off! Good luck to the lateshift crew!!

Its a bit of a bitch but nothing the locals arn't used to.

Although pulling all the CVR's would be highly entertaining for what was said on approach.

34kt cross wind for my employer and 60kt's for ground operations. However, anything above 50kts and I would worry about gusts damaging the controls.

65 for taxying Mike. Still wouldn't let us go though - it was only gusting to 64 as well. Bollocks, I was looking forwards to it!:{

Taken from my own home weather station at 620ft elevation 20 miles from EGPD an hour ago - speed in mph and it has since gusted 83.1mph!
