what was that

I am currently at work (Melbourn just north of Royston) and popped out the door of the building.

Just as I am popping out I see a wide bodied aircraft (Boeing 767 size) about 200 to 400 feet above (looks closer due to the size) coming straight towards me travelling north.

I just thought to myself 'what the f*** is that doing there ?
All I remember is the nav lights looking really bright against the darkening sky.

I know the aircraft is out of place as Melbourn is not a normal flight path for Stansted airport.
The aircraft then turned to the east (assuming some emergency to get back to Stansted airport.

Has anyone heard of anything ?
It happened about 4.30pm

Suspect it was very considerably higher than 2-400ft!!!!

Was it on descent or climb out? Travelling north would imply the later.

It would have crossed the airport threshold at only slightly less than 2-400 feet. Royston is 20 miles from STN (the closest).

It wasnt climbing but in level flight. It appeared at that height probably because the size of the plane is so large
